Social Conservationists

For all of you out there doing PhDs, you are incredible leaders at the forefront of brand new research and you are killing it! Remember, no matter how much you feel stuck, overwhelmed and frustrated, you are resilient, you are incredibly intelligent and any pace you take it is the perfect pace for you :)
Last night @this.is.ashleigh gave me the amazing privilege of talking to the students of Monash University about being a Lonely Conservationist. It's so empowering to me to see the opportunities students have nowadays to learn beyond the science and into the real world of how industries work together and how we should be thinking of different audiences as we write.
***NEW WEDNESDAY BLOG!!!***
"I am happiest doing fieldwork, even crawling through rhododendron, which might be my least favourite plant. I can't wait for my next field season to start so I can feel the joy of mere existence I had when this photo was taken. The past year really put mental health on the radar for a lot of people, myself included, and admitting to depression and anxiety and seeking help was really difficult and felt like I had failed as a human. I'm grateful to the communities like this one that exist to help reduce the stigma and encourage each other so we can all find each day gets a little bit better." -@stephaniehummingbird
***NEW PODCAST EPISODE!!*** In this week's podcast, Todd and I chat about @abigail.smyth and @angs_wild.life experiences with culture shock and reverse culture shock. We chat about what it feels like to belong nowhere and trying communicate between cultural and social barriers. If you have ever come home after a stint overseas and felt you don't belong anymore, this is the episode for you!
Last night I found some old posts of mine from 2017 where I wrote down my goals and thoughts and it made me so emotional knowing none of those goals came to fruition because of the nature of broken promises and dangling carrots within the industry. I also wrote about how I was proud of myself for never giving up but looking back I was astonished that I didn't give up, not even once. I was truly bewildered that despite everything going AWOL for 28 years, I still kept jumping every single hurdle to make it here today.
I seriously don't have any photos left of any of you so if you'd like to be featured on the page just send me a DM with a photo of yourself in nature :) until then, here is Toddney looking for beach birbs with me because it's important that all people in IT develop a strong twitching muscle 💚🌱💪
***NEW WEDNESDAY BLOG!!!***
If you'd like to be represented in the community, remember that you can submit photos for the feed at any time or submit your story to be featured as a Wednesday blog author 📝 The more conservationists we can showcase, the more room there is for a conversation about making the industry more accessible and accommodating for more individuals, no matter who they may be 🌱💚💪
